How to gain full RICS status

Sarah O’Brien, 25, is a trainee surveyor with DTZ in London

We have developed a number of routes to enable graduates to gain full RICS status and to enable you to put the letters after your name.

The alternative levels of qualification are, as you probably already know, MRICS – a chartered surveyor (member of RICS), or TechRICS– a technical surveyor (technical member of RICS).

Having the RICS mark after your name reassures clients, colleagues and the general public that you are fully qualified and an expert in your field. The reason that RICS membership commands such a high level of credibility and respect is that fully qualified RICS members are highly trained and adhere to a strict code of practice.

For graduates who have just passed an RICS accredited degree or diploma becoming a full RICS member will involve satisfactorily completing our APC – Assessment of Professional Competence.
