RICS has launched an accreditation scheme to promote excellence in the field of inclusive environments.
The scheme will provide the highest quality training and an examination to enhance and develop skills required of access consultants, based on the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Acts (DDA 1995 and 2005).
The objective is to provide a register of individuals with appropriate skills and experience to advise on inclusive environment strategies for clients affected by this legislation, the legal implications of which are far reaching covering employment, provision of goods, facilities and services, transport, education and the selling and management of property.
RICS members are well placed to gain expertise in this specialised area of work as they already have the professional knowledge to offer impartial advice on strategic matters, constructions, alterations and costs plus an awareness of government policy to promote sustainable and inclusive developments going forward.
The RICS scheme has a database of registered access consultants including area of practice by postcode, www.rics.org/findaniec.
This register is promoted to organisations requiring access advice from an appropriately qualified consultant.
