Hot Topic: Tenancy Deposit Protection

15 February 2007

In accordance with Housing (Tenancy Deposit Schemes) Order 2007, from 6 April 2007 all deposits taken for assured shorthold tenancies by managing agents and landlords in England and Wales must be protected by a tenancy deposit protection scheme which safeguards deposits for the duration of a tenancy and offers resolution should disputes arise.

RICS has published information advising members on what steps they should take including details of the various schemes available.

A frequently asked questions page has also been prepared which will be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

The best source for keeping up to date on developments  is the Department for Communities and Local Government Tenancy Deposit Protection’s website.
