RICS leads debate on measures to kick start housing market
RICS has outlined policy proposals for comprehensive action to address the current needs of the housing market.

In a letter to the Chancellor, RICS suggested action under five key areas: fiscal/financial, housing models, affordability and supply, regulation and consumer information.

Following the Government’s announcement of measures this week, RICS maintains the Government needs to further address mortgage liquidity by incentivising the issuance of new mortgage backed securities and covered bonds by allowing investors who buy them to enter into a repurchase arrangement with the Bank of England.

RICS will also continue to seek longer term reform of stamp duty from a "slab" to a marginal rate system.
