How to apply for the CSCS professional qualified person (PQP) card

26 July 2007

People covered by this card are professionally qualified, non-resident on-site and includes clients, designers & consultants, facilities managers, senior business executives, educators etc.  There is no intention that a 'Non-Resident' card should replace the need for occupational cards where the individual is resident or working regularly on site.

To apply for the card, you must:-

  • Be a current fully paid-up member of RICS at an eligible competence-assessed grade
  • Have up-to-date continuing professional development (CPD) records for the last two years relevant to the area of the work in which you currently practice
  • Confirm that you are not currently (or likely in the future) to be spending more than 30 days on site in a six month period

If you meet the above criteria, then please apply following these few steps:

STEP 1

Before obtaining a card you must pass the appropriate CSCS Higher Managerial Health and Safety test. To book this test the following options are available

  1. Book online through the CITB- Construction Skills website or
  2. Telephone 0870 600 4020 Monday to Friday 0800 to 1800.

The cost of this test is currently £17.50 and does not include any study material. This test can be paid by credit or a debit card. Your employer can make a block booking for you and your colleagues if preferred.

It is advisable to prepare for this test and therefore we suggest you also order revision material. CSCS recommend the Health and Safety for the Professional Qualified Persons 2007 Edition 2 publication which can be purchased at a price of £8.49 through the Health and Safety website or telephone 0161 868 3906.

Upon passing the Health and Safety test you will be issued a pass letter by the test centre attended. IT IS IMPORTANT that you retain this letter as it will reveal your CITB registration number that you will need to enter on the CSCS application form.

If you are unfortunate to fail your test you can re-sit this at a cost of £17.50.

For further details regarding the Health and Safety Test please visit the CITB-Construction Skills website or contact their helpline on 0870 600 4020.

STEP 2

After you have passed the Health and Safety test you may then apply for the CSCS Professional Qualified Persons card by completing the attached application form.

STEP 3

Once you have received your application form you will need to ensure that:

  • The application form is verified by a current member of the RICS, whose membership is at the same or higher level.
  • The verifier needs to confirm that they have seen evidence of your current membership, relevant and up-to-date continuing professional development (CPD) record and that you have completed the appropriate CSCS Higher Managerial level H&S test.
  • A completed application form needs to be accompanied with the fee of £25.00 and a passport size photograph.

Your application form will take approximately 28 days to process.

Cards obtained through this route are valid for five years, after this time they must be renewed.
