RICS has established a new Faculty for Building Control professionals working in the area of the Built Environment. Previously a forum, the move to faculty status is recognition of the growth of stature of the discipline across RICS, the construction profession and within Government.
RICS Building Control Faculty, which succeeds the RICS Building Control Forum, evolved from the 2001 merger between RICS and the Institute of Building Control (IBC). The Faculty will work closely with the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Association of Building Engineers on the implementation of regulations for energy conservation, ventilation and fire safety. Other key areas of the Faculty’s work will be to communicate building control and regulation changes to members, run workshops, road shows and training seminars.
RICS Building Control Faculty Chairman Paul Swift said that that the significance afforded by faculty status will be recognisable within government circles and should emphasise the authority with which the group speaks.
"As a full faculty we have additional obligations regarding the provision of services to our members and new opportunities to deliver those services. I am keen that we meet those obligations and aim to have these issues high on our immediate agenda."
