Inter-Professional Wine Tasting

Cambridgeshire matrics recently met up for a cross-professional wine tasting event at the Punter in Cambridge.

RICS members and the Cambridge Young Solicitors and Professionals Group joined matrics members for a blind tasting of wines from around the world followed by some of the Punter’s legendary gastro-pub food.

During the event, which was kindly sponsored by Bailey Fisher Executive Search, Matthew Boucher from Cambridge Wine Merchants briefed attendees on the essentials of tasting and then served six wines from mystery bottles.

Participants were given the task of guessing as much as they could about the wine, including attempting to guess which part of the world it was from. Extra marks were awarded for the best descriptions of the wines with champagne prizes for the most flamboyant and accurate.

In true blind-tasting style, when the names of the mystery bottles were revealed, the most popular wine by taste unexpectedly turned out to be a German white:  2006 Peter Reinert Saar Reisling. It was also the cheapest at £7 per bottle!

The evening was rounded off with some useful tips on how to respond convincingly, when a client or friend invites you to a meal and asks you “what do you think of the wine!?”

RICS matrics Cambridgeshire meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month to discuss current RICS/matrics issues, APC support, and to unwind over a drink or two after a long day at the office.
