We visited Shanklin, Isle of Wight, in October and toured the residential conversions of The Manor and The Priory and visited the Isle of Wight Centre for the Coastal Environment to learn about coastal defence, organised by Darren Foy. Thanks to our hosts William Smith, Dr Robert McInnis and local members, Stuart Sayce and David Bottom.
Christmas was celebrated at the new Winchester ice rink, with carols in the cathedral and supper in a local pub.
The New Year got off to a promising start with bowling in Southampton when Simon Ross achieved the highest score. £46.48 was raised towards the Chairman’s Challenge for LionHeart and thanks go to Brigham Young for organising the event and John Jannaway of Hays Recruitment for their sponsorship.
Our first careers fair of the year took place in February at The Rose Bowl, Hampshire, where we offered advice and an insight into a career in surveying to 14-24 year olds. Many thanks to local members, Rob Flucker and Mark Douglas, who supported the event with committee members, Mark Evans and Brigham Young.
We also enjoyed a social networking event in Cowes and attracted 14 members from the Isle of Wight and the mainland – and raised £33.13 for LionHeart too!
As I am leaving the area, Mark Evans will be taking the reins on 1 June until the new committee is formally elected. He can be contacted on +44(0)1635 277429 e mark.evans@sovereign.org.uk
