Charles Fifield RICS matrics UK Chairman: 2007/8

Welcome to RICS matrics, I am Charles Fifield, your Chairman for the 2007/8 Session.

RICS matrics is the part of RICS for Members under 35, together with Student members and APC Candidates of any age, and as such acts as the voice for the younger members.

RICS matrics has 4 key aims:

  1. Careers Promotion
  2. Student member recruitment and conversion
  3. APC Support and Development
  4. Career Progression

We hope to help achieve these by using our unique structure and working Locally, Regionally and Nationally within RICS as a whole.

At the heart of RICS matrics in the UK, is a Local Structure based on over 30 Local Groups, who organise events such as:

  • New Members Receptions
  • Sporting Events
  • Dinners/Balls in aid of Charity
  • Inter-Professional Networking events
  • volunteering to attend careers events at Schools and Universities.

Without the Local Groups none of this would happen.

The benefits of RICS matrics not only include the networking element which is always useful on a day to day basis in the property industry but also for students to get a closer insight into their chosen profession and for APC candidates to meet other candidates or recently qualified surveyors which may not always be available at work.

RICS matrics is also keen to encourage more members to volunteer to become APC Assessors.

We are also keen to support LionHeart, the Benevolent Fund for RICS members and their dependents.

Our Local Groups feed into RICS Regional Boards, onto RICS matrics UK Council and ultimately Governing Council.

Through this structure the concerns and ideas of RICS matrics are able to be voiced to RICS as a whole and help shape the future of our profession.

RICS matrics doesn’t just exist in the UK but also in Oceania (Australia and New Zealand), Hong Kong, has close links with the YCS in Southern Ireland and new groups are being formed across Europe.

So if you’re crossing continents RICS matrics may already beaten you to your destination!

RICS matrics – Together we can make it happen.
