Matt Wallace has been appointed as the new East Midlands representative on the RICS matrics UK council. Matt takes up the reigns from Gavin Smith, who after two years is standing-down from the position.

Matt has been chairman of RICS matrics Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR) for the past two years. At the group’s recent AGM, he stepped down as chairman, but continues to be an active member of the group’s committee. 

Commenting on his new appointment Matt said: “I would like to personally thank Gavin for his sterling work in this role which I have found very useful and supportive in my time as a matrics chairman.

“It is my challenge to co-ordinate and facilitate matrics activities across the East Midlands, reducing duplication, maximising efficiency and event participation. Essentially I’ll be making sure that what we are planning is what our audience want to be involved in.”

As the region’s rep on the RICS matrics UK Council, Matt will act as the main point of contact for matrics chairs across the East Midlands, distilling and cascading information from the council to the respective local groups. 

Matt, who is a quantity surveyor for EC Harris at its East Midlands office, added: “It is a challenge, but I know with the team we have assembled across the region we should be able to provide our members, students and interested parties with some of the best events the region has ever seen!”

At this time of year there are always lots of changes within the region’s matrics committees.
