RICS Lincolnshire Chairman's summer social
Ian Pendred FRICS reports:
High praise indeed should be steeped on our current chairman John Templeman for “sticking his head above the water” and suggesting a boat trip on the Brayford as a Summer Social Event.
We hired a private charter of the ‘Brayford Belle’ and took a leisurely meander along the Historic Fossdyke Navigation.
The weather had been rather inclement in the week before our Friday trip, however the rain held off and a beautiful sunny evening developed and a wonderful time was had by all on board.
We attracted a really good mix of RICS members, matrics ‘youngsters’ and respective partners as well as a scattering of friends, colleagues and representatives of kindred professional bodies.
It was generally shirt sleeves and sunglasses for much of the trip and it was a delight to see the beauty of the Brayford in such convivial company.
Much credit goes to the Regional Office in Newark for their organisation of the Summer Social which was capped off on the return leg by a fly past. The sun was in my eyes and I could not tell the make of the planes but they were in perfect formation and we saluted them as the passed overhead.
Seriously though this was a delightful trip and well worthwhile and we need more of these informal get togethers to put the vitality back into the Local Lincolnshire Association.
John Elliott added:
The Chairman's Summer Social was certainly a pleasant way to spend an evening. It was an excellent opportunity to combine an evening with friends and to meet / network with other property people. I had not previously been on the boat trip from Brayford Pool, outside the Odeon Cinema along the Fossdyke Canal and decided to invite friends, Robert and Becky Bell. With a bar and buffet on board, the journey passed in a very convivial atmosphere.
If next year's Chairman would like to suggestion for a Summer Social, he could do a lot worse than book a boat trip along the Fossdyke!
