Visually impaired teenager Tamzin Orr can watch her favourite TV shows again thanks to a members of RICS matrics Nottinghamshire.

The 15 year old suffers from a brain tumour which affects her vision and makes watching a small screen impossible.
But now she can watch once again after the Matrics committee raised £1,000 to grant Tamzin’s wish for a new 42 inch plasma screen TV.

The wish presentation was organised by the children charity When You Wish Upon A Star.

Delighted Tamzin, from Carlton, said: “This is fantastic. I’m so pleased that I can watch my favourite programmes again.
“I couldn’t watch the telly before because our old set was too small it used to hurt my eyes and give me a headache. But the new TV is so much bigger and I can follow the programmes and see the screen again.

“I really want to thank Nottinghamshire matrics and Barbara from When You Wish Upon A Star for helping me. It’s brilliant. Now all my friends want to come and watch TV at my house.”

When You Wish Upon A Star was founded by Barbara White in 1990 to grant the wishes of children suffering from a life threatening illness and has now made more than 12,000 wishes come true.
The money to buy Tamzin’s TV was raised at last Novembers Nottinghamshire matrics dinner. In total £1,640 was collected for good causes.

Nottingham matrics chairman, Jenny Walkerdine of King Sturge said: “We were very pleased to be able to raise this money and help Tamzin. It was great to see how pleased she was with her new TV and to realise the huge difference it will make to her life.”

Fellow surveyor David Collett, of DTZ, added: “The committee would like to thank primary sponsors Judd Farris, together with FHP and King Sturge. Special mention also goes to the raffle prize donators, Martin Austin Publishing, EC Harris, Boots, RICS East Midlands, Faithful & Gould, Watts Group, Robert Clarke, Shoosmiths and Church Lukas.”

This year’s RICS matrics fund-raising dinner will be held at the Crown Plaza on November 7. If you wish to sponsor this event or donate a raffle prize, please contact Melanie Westall on 01636 677184.

Barbara White of When You Wish Upon A Star said: "To be able to fulfil a wish is an incredible achievement and can bring a huge smile to a child's face and to the parents who have taken time out from the visits to doctors and hospitals to actually have time to enjoy life with their son or daughter doing what they have always dreamed of, sadly too many families go through this heartache with children who are not as lucky as some.

“To make that vision a reality we rely overwhelmingly on the generosity and hard work of our supporters. Quite simply, the more money we receive, the more Wishes we can have the pleasure of granting.”
