The East Midlands is at the very heart of Britain. It comprises five ‘shire’ counties; Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire plus the unitary area of Rutland.

Its unique geographic location gives it a variety of landscapes and communities, from the urban areas of its major cities (Derby, Leicester and Nottingham) to the rural communities of Lincolnshire and the Peak District. Chartered Surveyors are an integral part of the business and community life in all of them.

To the north the centres of Manchester and Sheffield are within easy reach whilst to the south, London is less than 50 miles away.

The region has a very active Development Agency (emda), a new but evolving Regional Assembly and a range of business development organisations.

RICS regional effort is channelled into ensuring that their activities are informed and influenced by the knowledge and experience of the near-5 000 Chartered Surveyors who live and work in the East Midlands.
