North West Awards 2008 - Winners Revealed

BEETHAM TOWER SCOOPS TOP PRIZE AT RICS NORTH WEST AWARDS

Manchester’s Beetham Tower has beaten off fierce competition from across the region to scoop the coveted Project of the Year title in the 2008 RICS North West Awards. The Awards, headline sponsored By The North West Development Agency, attracted 99 entrants form across the region, the highest number of entrants in the country.

The 48-storey development also secured the North West category award for Design and Innovation and was described as ‘truly iconic’.

The RICS judges – all property professionals – said that they could not fail to be impressed by the success of the innovative approach and the application of the tower project team’s expertise and experience in delivering at the cutting edge of design and property development. 

They added: “This project has not only achieved local, national and international recognition but has also realised significant economic success.

“A truly iconic building and one of the latest generations of high rise developments, Beetham Tower is deservedly the RICS North West Project of the Year.”

The winners were announced at a glittering gala dinner at Liverpool’s acc, hosted by broadcaster and presenter Peter Sissons on 16 May 2008

The winning projects from four of the categories – Regeneration, Sustainability, Community Benefit and Building Conservation – automatically go through to the international RICS Awards, which will be held in October, to compete against some of the world’s leading property developments.

RICS North Operations Director Jennifer Welch said: “The awards highlight the fantastic work carried out by property professionals, such as chartered surveyors. The innovative work they do is vital to the ongoing success of the way we live, work and play in the North West.

“Once again we have seen some stunning entries, which gave our judges a terrifically difficult task.  From city centre offices to rural regeneration, the North West is alive with exciting developments. 

“Beetham Tower fulfilled all the criteria as a truly stunning and unique development in the Design and Innovation award, ultimately securing the overall title of 2008 Project of the Year.”
