Pro Yorkshire Awards winners announced
BREATHING SPACE in Rotherham has beaten off fierce competition from across Yorkshire and the Humber to be named ‘Project of the Year’, as well as scooping the coveted Design & Innovation award, in the 2008 RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards.
The RICS annual awards are the most prestigious in the region’s property calendar, and this year the winners were announced at a glittering gala dinner held at Leeds Town Hall on 23 May 2008.
There are eight award categories in total – Building Conservation, Regeneration, Sustainability, Community Benefit, Commercial, Residential, Tourism & Leisure and Innovation & Design.
Breathing Space was also shortlisted in the Community benefit and Sustainability categories. The development by Rotherham Borough Council is a respite centre for sufferers of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. The scheme was built over a period of approximately 12 months and combines modern architectural design with sustainable construction features.
Kevin Wood, Chair of the Judges, commented: “The diversity and quality of the shortlisted projects in the Design & Innovation category was very impressive and clearly reflects the variety of excellent schemes currently underway in the region. It was very difficult to judge but Breathing Space really stood out from the crowd and thoroughly deserves this recognition.
“These awards also serve to highlight the vital role chartered surveyors and other skilled specialists play in our society. We should remember that behind every successful development there is a team of highly talented and trained individuals.”
The judging panel comprises of a mixture of property professionals from various disciplines and backgrounds across Yorkshire & Humber.
