From 4 January 2009, an Energy Performance Certificate will be required when a non-residential property is marketed for sale or lease. In addition, all public buildings over 1000m² (some exemptions apply) will need to display an EPC, even if they are not being sold or leased.

The Scottish Building Standards (SBS) have entered into protocol agreements with a number of professional bodies, including RICS. If you are a qualified member of RICS Scotland then you are entitled to carry out EPC assessments for existing buildings without the need for further accreditation. You must however ensure that you meet the criteria in the SBS protocol agreement

In response to this, RICS Scotland are offering a four day course (two 2-day sessions) to ensure our members are trained on the use of the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) calculation tool. Further details about the content of the programme, as well as the booking form for the course, are both available by downloading the PDF documents on the right hand side of the page.

Please note that numbers are strictly limited to a maximum of 20 people, so book your place now.

For further information about the programme, or if you have any questions, please contact Sharon Burt on 0131 240 0836 or email sburt@rics.org
