The popular viewing terrace at the National Botanic Garden of Wales has been revamped by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
The terrace features the floor plan and layout of the mansion and its setting within the estate in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, while the connecting mount offers a different perspective of the Great Glass House and stunning views of the surrounding valleys and hillsides which surround the Garden, including the aspect to Paxton’s Tower.
The feature was first opened to mark the turn of the Millennium as part of RICS Project 2000 to reflect the contribution of RICS Wales to the land and property in the principality over the past century and a half. Members of the South Wales branch and their companies raised and donated more than £34,000 which was match-funded by the Millennium Commission to create the feature.
RICS Wales have now revamped the viewing terrace and the mount for the public to enjoy and the improvements were officially unveiled on Tuesday, September 9.
As well as offering beautiful views of the gardens and surrounding countryside, the new and improved terrace, located on the site of the former Middleton Hall, provides a wealth of information on careers in chartered surveying and the breadth of work in which it covers.
Cathy McLean, Director of RICS Wales, the leading representative body for property professionals in Wales, said: “The viewing terrace and mount is a prime spot for visitors to enjoy the beautiful National Botanic Gardens and RICS Wales are delighted to play its part in making sure the features stay this way.
“The terrace has been very popular since it was first unveiled eight years ago and demonstrates the dedication, hard work and support of the contributors who made it possible.
“Chartered Surveyors have a diverse responsibility, from the redevelopment of contaminated land in various sites across Wales to multi-million pound shopping centre developments such as St David’s 2 in Cardiff and Eagles Meadow Hall in Wrexham. The advice of a chartered surveyor is recommended at every stage of the property life cycle.
“We hope that visitors will not only enjoy the experience of visiting the Botanic Gardens, but that the terrace will help to raise awareness of RICS’ ongoing contribution to the property profession in Wales.”
