Event overview
The RICS South East Awards 2008 takes place at Oxford Castle.  The overall winner of RICS South East Awards 2007 and winner of the Regeneration category, Oxford Castle was also the RICS Awards 2007 Project of the Year.

This year's event features an array of activities to give you a taste of what Oxford has to offer, culminating in the awards ceremony which will choose the best entrants in our Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Regeneration and Sustainability categories.  An award will also be presented for the overall regional winner.

Details
The following events are planned between 1400 and 1700:

  • Tour of Haunted Oxford.  Historically informative yet hugely entertaining, this is the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere of Oxford, but leaving you with a deliciously scary tingle running down your spine
  • River cruise down the River Isis.  Departing from Christchurch Meadows, the boat cruises down a fascinating stretch of the river, heading south towards Iffley Lock.  This is one of the busiest and most colourful stretches of the Oxford Thames (the stretch known locally as the Isis). Rowing eights, university boats and large pleasure cruisers come together in a lively display of all the river has to offer
  • Guided tour around the Oxford Castle Heritage Museum.  Used as a place of incarceration from 1071 until 1996, the secrets of Oxford Castle are now revealed.  Experience the austere confines of the 18th Century Debtor's Tower, Prison "D" wing and the dank atmosphere of the 900 year old underground crypt during your tour of the castle.  Climb to the top of the Saxon St George's Tower for a marvellous view of the historic spires of Oxford.

The programme runs from 1330 for gold ticket holders, with silver ticket holders (who are unable to make the afternoon events) joining in the fun for the reception drinks, awards ceremony and dinner from 1800.

Pre-awards reception
The reception will be held in the very special setting of a converted prison - now the atrium of Malmaison Hotel - between 1815 and 1900.

Awards and dinner
The awards will be presented in a marquee in the grounds of Oxford Castle followed by a three-course dinner at 2000.  Entertainment will be provided by the Jazz Functionnaires (a four piece band) during dinner, coupled with additional performances at your tables by a magician, a vocal trio and a caricaturist.

Overnight accommodation is available at special rates at Malmaison - book early to ensure your night in the cells!  Contact Alison Lawrence t +44 (0)1869 349792 or email alawrence@rics.org for further details.
