Percentage of woman experience gender inequalities within the construction sector
According to a new survey published on 5 July 2007 by the multinational design and engineering consultancy, Atkins.
Approximately (54%) of woman say they have experienced gender inequalities in the workplace.
This was largely consistent across women working in all sectors and levels of industry, from clerical positions to senior managers.
Despite government and industry efforts to remove gender barriers, more than two-thirds of all women feel that discrimination exists in their sector.
The Atkins research shows that a quarter of women say there is lack of female role models in their industry and unequal pay among men and women working under the same occupations.
One in ten women feel that they are not achieving middle management positions or above, with one in five saying they do not achieve senior positions.
These problems are even more common among women working in engineering and construction.
