Raising the Ratio is about making sure that UK employers in the property profession are fishing from the widest possible pool of talent. Ignoring 50% of the population is not only discriminatory, its bad business.
Currently 15% of RICS’ qualified members are women. In some areas such as construction, this figure is even lower despite the fact that the skill set required to be a surveyor closely matches the skill sets that women are renowned for.
This low percentage is in stark contrast to other professions such as law and accountancy, which have managed to attract and retain women at every level. But things are changing.
Through the RICS Raising the Ratio Task Force, we hope to break down the barriers to recruitment and retention. Chaired by past RICS President Jonathan Harris, the group has undertaken research to identify the gender inequalities within the profession and provide solutions to address these.
