Research into mould and the implications for chartered surveyors

27 April 2005

The report discusses the implications of the findings for surveyors and specifically calls for clear guidance to be developed for reporting moulds in homes.

The research looked at samples taken from those residential buildings visited by surveyors from the research partner organisations, where visible mould was found.

This provided data on the incidence of visible mould growth within the entire sample of residential properties visited by the surveyors involved.

As well as the percentage of these cases where S tachybotrys chartarum and Aspergillus fumigatus (those fungi associated with adverse health effects) were present, the researchers also collected contextual information regarding the indoor environment in the sample properties.
