Rebuilding Cost Guides 2007

19 April 2007

The latest 2007 Rebuilding Cost Guides for insurance purposes are now available from BCIS.  The information is also available in an easy-to-use online format: BCIS Rebuild Online.

This information is essential for all surveyors, valuers and loss adjusters who carry out Rebuilding Cost Assessments.

BCIS Rebuilding Cost information is the basis for insurance reinstatement and rebuilding cost assessments for residential properties in the UK.

Professionals who are carrying out assessments need to use the cost information contained within the Guides to make sure that all variables have been covered and that the assessment is correct.

The 2007 updated version includes guidance on rebuilding costs of Georgian Houses. In the past, BCIS has published rebuilding costs on a different range of houses built during the Victorian era to date in four age bands.

Following consultations, it was decided to extend the archetypes of houses to include older houses built in the Georgian era.

For the purposes of this guide, the Georgian era has been defined as houses built between 1720 and 1839, with the Victorian/Edwardian period starting in 1840.

In total, 81 costs for individual houses are given. However, it must be stressed that these cost are not applicable to listed houses and will need to be adjusted further if they are used in conservation areas.

In addition to new adjustments which are particularly relevant to Georgian houses, there are new adjustments for swimming pools, decking and basement car parks in modern flats.
