Scale - Once it's digital isn't everything full size?

A useful guide from RICS on not tripping up over step changes in scale.

The latest release (6 of 7) in the industry-standard RICS Geomatics Mapping Panel client guide series focuses on the sometimes difficult issue of Scale.

This client guide outlines the issues surrounding scale in this age of digital mapping and surveying. The relationship between scale and accuracy is outlined and easy to understand advice on appropriate scale use, survey detail, text and output is included.

This client guide also contains a fully updated 'Quickspec for topographical and measured building surveys', the quickspec is also available as a seperate download and has its origins in the seminal 'Surveys of land, buildings and utility services at scales of 1:500 and larger'.

Although written with the UK market in mind this (and many other) Mapping And Positioning Practice Panel (MAPPP) client guides are applicable globally.

The MAPPP client guides are designed to be used by professional and technical members of RICS Geomatics to help explain complex geo-subject areas to lay professionals, clients and other related professions such as architects and/or engineers.

The previous client guide (Virtually Right? - networked GPS) explained in lay person’s language the transition to GPS RTL correction services and what can be expected from their implementation by surveyors.

The client guides also refer to the main body of official RICS industry standard guidance and professional information, now available free to all RICS members from www.rics.org/guidance.

The client guides are also very suitable for student use.
