This paper develops a process model of professional services in the context of the UK construction industry. The factors identified as being important to such professional services have been identified from a literature review. The differences between services and manufactured goods are considered and then professional services are examined.

The key variables to each party, as well as to the project they are working on, are considered at the three stages of: pre-purchase, consumption, and post-purchase. These factors are then developed into the process model.
