Site Waste Management Plans: A Hammonds Insight

18 August 2008

According to Defra, the construction industry uses about 420 million tonnes of materials each year, of which approximately 109 million tonnes result in waste.

Over 30% of the most serious fly-tips dealt with by the Environment Agency involve construction related waste.

To help tackle the issue of construction waste, in 2004 the DTI (now BERR) introduced a Voluntary Code of Practice for Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) to provide a structure for systematic waste management at all stages of a construction project's delivery.
