FIG Stockholm 2008

27 July 2008

The 2008 FIG Working Week was held in Stockholm, Sweden and attracted over 900 delegates from across the world.

The Working Week was hosted jointly by FIG and the Swedish Association of Surveyors, SLF, which at the same time celebrated its 100th Anniversary.

The theme of the Working Week “Integrating Generations” was in line with the overall theme of the current FIG Council, as lead by Prof Stig Enemark Hon RICS: “Building the Capacity”.

In addition to the plenary sessions there were over 70 technical sessions, with almost 350 presentations, and technical tours. The Working Week included the joint FIG/UN-HABITAT seminar on “Improving Slum Conditions through Innovative Financing”.

RICS was very well represented, with a full UK delegation, numerous individual members in attendance and even a dedicated environmental strand. This web resource contains all of the RICS FIG delegation presented papers, including the environment presentations and provides RICS members with a significant web resource.

RICS was also very successful on the political front with:

Iain Greenway FRICS being elected as FIG vice-president, Prof Frances Plimmer FRICS elected as chair of commission 9 – valuation and Dr Diane Dumashie taking over as interim chair (2007-11) of commission 8 – planning and environment. Dr Dumashie is also the head of the RICS UK delegation to FIG.

RICS members were heavily involved in the main products from this working week:

Costa Rica declaration on pro poor coastal management

FIG Publication no. 42 - Informal Settlements: The Road towards More Sustainable Places.
