Flooding is a major risk in the UK and its affects can be devastating and costly. According to the Environment Agency about 5 million people, in 2 million properties, live in flood risk areas in England and Wales.
June was one of the wettest months on record in Britain. Average rainfall across England was 140 mm, more than double the June average. July's weather has continued to be unsettled, with above-average rain falling through the month, peaking on 20 July. The cost of the recent flood damage is expected to rise to £2billion.
RICS has created this page to help you prepare for, and recover from a flood. Floods are one of the most common and widespread of all disasters and are growing in frequency and severity, possibly an adverse consequence of global warming.
RICS will be sending out a questionnaire to chartered surveyors to establish what they are currently doing, and what they can do in the future to both help alleviate flood risk and assist with the post recovery operations.
