Select committee report on renewable energy technologies

27 June 2008

The Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee has released a report on Renewable Energy Technologies.

The report notes the contribution to renewable electricity-generation of various biomass and biogas sources, including landfill gas, sewage sludge digestion, municipal solid waste combustion, co-firing, and anaerobic digestion.

The report’s summary concludes: "…we have been consistently disappointed by the lack of urgency expressed by government – and at times by the electricity industry – in relation to the challenge ahead. We expect government to take a greater lead on this matter, and hope that a clear strategy for progress, will be forthcoming."
