No one can deny the benefits and efficiencies email brings to business, and no more so than in our own construction industry. Indeed, some standard practice has become entirely dependent on this as the primary/sole method of day-to-day communication.
However, the inherent nature and informality of email has also created a wake of inefficiency and bad practice as we come to terms with the impact of the communication revolution on our business – not to mention our private lives.
Many of us have the urge to act upon emails as they drop into our inbox, allowing us to be regularly distracted from the task at hand. Does the quality of our work suffer as a result? Are we working effectively and efficiently? Can we deal with the potential levels of disruption? Will we have to learn to become super multi-taskers?
