01 August 2006

First established in the United States, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are a tax-efficient way of investing in property. Seen as a means to improving the efficiency of the commercial and residential property investment market, they avoid the risks associated with property ownership. REITs also offer individual private investors the opportunity to invest in property.

RICS welcomed the announcement in the Budget on 22 March 2006 that Real Estate Investment Trusts will be introduced in the UK from January 2007.

This hot topic brings together a list of books, journal articles, online publications, websites on REITs. A full list of hot topics is also available.
