Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisations are defined as those having a mission or set of objectives which do not include, or have as a priority, the pursuit or maximisation of profit. These organisations include both public sector and privately owned bodies, some of which have charitable status. In the majority of cases the primary activities of these organisations is the provision of services, often of a personal nature, rather than the manufacture and distribution of goods. <p>
This paper sets out to identify and examine the strategic role of property and property services as an element of support to the management of the core activities of these organisations and to evaluate the influence of the effective management of property upon organisational success and the quality of service delivery. Reference is made to the particular and sometimes unique characteristics of these organisations and the management of their property assets.
Of significant importance are the declared mission and objective values of the organisation which permeate the manner in which the organisation conducts its affairs and which have a direct effect upon, and which in turn are reinforced by, the property management function.
This work represents a position paper at the early stages of the author's research into this subject and describes some of the theoretical background which is required to be considered and understood before more extensive and intensive investigation is carried out into the many aspects of this subject area.
