Helplines

RICS offers telephone helplines giving you 30 minutes free advice on the issues listed on this page.

Boundary disputes
Offering you guidance to help resolve disagreements quickly. Chartered surveyors specialising in boundaries are professional advisors with relevant knowledge of both property issues and the law.

Party walls
Advice on party walls (the walls you share with your neighbours) for homeowners and landlords who are unsure of their rights and responsibilities.

If you are planning to carry out any building work on your property (e.g. extensions, damp proofing works, structural alterations) you must ensure you are complying with the Party Wall etc Act 1996.

Compulsory purchase
This is where the government, local council or utility company has the legal right to buy or take rights over your private property, if it falls within a public or private construction project (e.g. airport expansions, housing developments, sewer, water or gas pipe schemes, and rail or road building projects).

If you are, or think you might be, affected by a compulsory purchase or statutory scheme call us.

Business rates
Thinking of appealing against your business rates? Make sure the advice you’re getting is genuine, talk to an RICS Chartered Surveyor.

Just call T +44 (0)870 333 1600 and you will be put in touch with an RICS member local to you, willing to provide a free 30 minute initial consultation.

Lines are open 0830 - 1730 (GMT), Monday to Friday.
