Property is a basic market grouping which is divided into five areas of specialisation, called 'Faculties'.

(There are three market groupings: Land; Property; Built Environment)

The Faculties represent the key market sectors within which surveyors practice. Some of these markets are mature, with a high recognition of the RICS brand; others less so. 

Arts and Antiques Faculty
This Faculty aims to raise the status of the Chartered Arts and Antiques Surveyor as provider of the most comprehensive and professional advice on the valuation, purchase, sale and management of antiques and fine arts.

Commercial Property Faculty
For professionals who have an interest in all aspects of property used for business or leisure purposes.

Dispute Resolution Faculty
For members involved in all areas of dispute resolution including conflict avoidance, arbitration, adjudication, independent expert determination, mediation, and expert witness and advocacy services.

Facilities Management Faculty
For members involved in facilities management and business support, performance-oriented procurement, life cycle costing and service management.

Machinery and Business Assets Faculty
For those members who have a range of skills and expertise that allows them to advise on the valuation and sale of both tangible and intangible assets throughout the world.

Management Consultancy Faculty
This Faculty has a remit that covers not only management consultancy, but also corporate recovery and business management. Other areas covered include business property solutions, management and practice, strategic advice, corporate and personal insolvency, and turnaround management.

Residential Property Faculty
The Faculty's mission is to be regarded as the most professional voice in residential property. The Faculty covers the following areas in both the private and public residential sector: agency practice and law; valuation; property lettings and management; rent reviews and lease renewals; residential property purchase surveys; building surveys; etc.

Valuation Faculty
The faculty’s supports the professional issues concerning members that work in : Land, property and business valuation practice common to all forms and uses of property; Compensation bases and assessment for compulsory acquisition; Investment appraisal, performance measurement and analysis, and decision taking; Rating valuation and property taxation law and practice; Property funding and financing.
