Use your designation

Why use your RICS designation in your marketing?

11 November 2007

The chartered surveyor designation – the letters after your name, the RICS logo and the words ‘Regulated by RICS’ for regulated firms, will help people recognise you as a qualified property professional or business committed to following RICS values and working to the highest standards of competence.

Our campaigns and growing media profile are all designed to promote trust and confidence in your activities.

The more you use the RICS mark, the greater your business’ competitive edge and earning power.

These guidelines are for:

  • individual members of RICS;
  • firms (professional practices) offering independent surveying services to the public; and
  • other businesses involved in surveying activity whether in a commercial or institutional context – for example, local authorities and property developers.

The guidelines have been updated in 2007 to reflect the requirements of RICS’ regulatory system. These regulations apply to some professional practices from 4 June 2007, and can be grouped into two categories:

  • ·Professional practices with 50% or more RICS partners or directors which must be regulated by RICS

  • Professional practices with a minority of RICS partners or directors and which are not automatically covered by the RICS regulations but may choose to be regulated by RICS.

RICS cannot currently regulate professional practices outside the UK or other businesses not providing independent surveying services to the public.
