Salary survey - the seven year itch?

06 March 2006

The results of the seventh annual RICS and Macdonald Salary survey are in. And the analysis indicates that employee satisfaction is running high. 66% of survey respondents state that they are unlikely to change employer in the next 12 months.

Professionals working in the property sector reported an average salary of £44 839 (excluding bonuses and other benefits). This is up 10.9% on last year's average earnings.

The survey results show that chartered surveyors are closing the salary gap with fellow professions such as the law (£48 000) and engineering (£53 067). Some specialisms such as fund management enjoy average salaries in excess of £60 000.

Peter Moore MRICS, Managing Director of MacDonald & Company comment
"With better salaries and career prospects mentioned as the likely drivers for staff to leave their current employers, firms need to ensure that they offer a competitive package ensuring opportunities for individuals to take responsibility early in their careers, providing a range of progressive and interesting work projects and cultivate an inclusive management style"
