Building conservation

The RICS Building Conservation Forum provides a network for all professionals with an interest in the building conservation sector of Land, Property and Built Environment.

Our aim is to develop standards, best practice and technical information as well as seminars and events to help promote professionals in this area in addtition to promoting the public interest in accordance with our Royal Charter.

The Forum also:

  • Runs an Accreditation Scheme for surveyors in conservation
  • Publishes a regular Conservation Journal with articles and expert opinion on conservation matters
  • Publishes a regular series of short guides on issues related to historic buildings
  • Arranges an active programme of events for members, including an annual seminar and visits to work in progress at historic buildings

Access to like-minded professionals is at your fingertips via the Building Conservation Forum online community site, along with discussion forums and articles of interest. You can start discussion threads on topics and technical matters and have active members of the forum help you.

About the Forum Steering Group
RICS staff work in partnership with the forum steering groups in delivering the various business plans in the light of the resources available. The purpose of the RICS Building Conservation Forum Steering Group is to shape the strategic direction of the forum by way of a rolling, three-year business plan.

They are also oversee the accreditation scheme and involve the larger conservation community through the RICS Conservation Forum.

RICS Building Conservation Winter School

25-27 March 2012, Cambridge

Experience conservation through technical updates from leading professionals, plus visit various sites to see conservation in practise.

RICS & SPAB Building Conservation Summer School

11-15 September, Cirencester

Experience conservation as it happens. Includes a hands-on day for students on how to use lime mortars and renders. Practitioners are also welcome to discover new skills.
