Demand for green buildings is growing with increasing support for embedding sustainability characteristics into mortgage or bond underwriting. As an organisation committed to sustainable practices that future-proof our world and sector, we’ve partnered with the European Mortgage Federation (EMF), the Green Building Councils, EON and academia to create a green mortgages scheme.
RICS has been actively calling on EU institutions and national governments to take concrete and innovative steps towards a de-carbonised built environment that is healthy and comfortable, is constructed with minimal energy, waste and environmental impact and is resilient to changes in climate and use.

RICS Governing Council has taken a number of decisions to better equip it to set our strategy and ensure the appropriate level of oversight that our profession and external stakeholders would expect. Amongst the changes are a move to two Council meetings a year, timed to fit with our cycle of planning and performance reporting.
Smart city strategies are currently implemented in many countries aiming among other things at reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
