Trends and perspectives in Facility Management were discussed at one of our four expert panels at Expo Real, the International Trade Fair for Property and Investment in Munich.
Moderator Maarten Vermeulen FRICS, Managing Director for RICS in Europe, ran a lively discussion with
- Andreas Gassner MRICS, CEO, RHCS GmbH, Austria
- Stefan Roost MRICS, Head Program Management, CBRE Global Workplace Solutions, Switzerland and
- Stephen Coticoni MRICS, CEO, BNPPRE Advisory, Italy
looking at the subject from several viewpoints. Panelists agreed that facilities management becomes increasingly important for the built environment in the years to come.
The impact of IT in the corporate world has shifted the FM paradigm from pure facilities management to workplace management, a real game changer for the sector.
Yet a lot of things still need to be sorted out, the development of facilities management varies per country in Europe, cultural differences play a role when it comes to designing the facilities management function and to many people it is not clear what the differences are between for example asset, property and facilities management..
In the future FM professionals need to understand their clients even better and engage technology to create added value, for the client and the society.
If you do not facilitate your property it will never become an asset!
An hour was not enough to cover all the questions risen, but certainly provided for a lively and entertaining discussion, as commented by one of the listeners. As further mentioned by the panelists, you will find a lot of interesting facts and guidance in the RICS Reports Raising the bar and in the CBRE report ‘Top trends in facilities management – how society, demographics and technology are changing the world of FM’.
