In the Geomatics Conference 2016, speakers from different sectors will share their views on the position of the geomatics profession as its transition from the past to modern construction industry, the education of young practitioners, how the latest technologies tackle the challenges of spatial data acquisition, storage and management for construction, and the qualification framework for the profession itself.
About the Speakers
Mr David FUNG is a registered architect with over 23 years of architectural experience in Australia and HK. For the past 18 years, David has applied BIM to producing effective working practices for BIM in built designs, documentations/co-ordination, and construction/facility management. He is the Chairman of HKIBIM which promotes BIM in HK. David also has extensive experiences in teaching BIM, BIM implementation and establishing BIM standards. He has won a number of BIM awards throughout the years, including the HK BIMer Excellence Awards 2014 by CIC. David is a regular speaker at conferences and forums on BIM and was one of the speakers at the 2016 4th Global Government BIM Symposium.
Dr Lesly LAM is the Honorary Treasurer of the HKIS. In recent years, he has worked alongside of his former professor, Dr Conrad TANG of the HK Polytechnic University on the research of SDI for HK; validating SDI’s effectiveness as a practicable policy on the promotion of sustainable development for a society through data sharing. Lesly received a BSc in Surveying and Geo-Informatics from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HK in 1995, a MSc from the University College London, United Kingdom in 2002 and a DBA in knowledge management in PPP projects from the University of South Australia, Australia in 2014.
Mr Andy CHAU is the Regional Director of Leica Geosystems Ltd. where he provides a full range of specialised products and solutions for the construction and surveying industries in HK and Taiwan. Having been with Leica Geosystems for the past 25 years, he has witnessed a number of critical changes within data acquisition technology, from manual optical-mechanical instrument to automatic 3D system. Andy is well versed in geospatial solutions for the aerospace and defense, safety and security, construction, and manufacturing industries.
Mr Jimmy LAU has been working with the Bentley Systems HK Ltd. for the past 16 years. He is now managing the pre-sales technical team for transportation in Asia and is also involved with pre and post sales support, training and project implementation for Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise, Bentley Geospatial, Civil and BIM solution. Jimmy has a wealth of experience on solution implementation and consultancy services for various government offices, such as Drainage Services Department, Highways Department, Housing Authority and etc.
Ms Miranda LUI is an internationally educated and highly experienced engineering surveyor and trainer for over 20 years. Miranda has practical regional experience in various projects throughout HK, Macau, Mainland China and Malaysia. Having served the CICES since 2002, she is the Chairlady at the CICES in HK and Senior Vice-Chair for China Region where she represents HK in the capacity of international expert at the ICE/ICES Geospatial Engineering Panel in the UK. Miranda is the Founder and Director of MES Services Ltd. (MES) HK and the Founder and Chair of the Global BIM Centre of Excellence (CoE).
Mr LY LAM is the General Manager of D-Reality Consultancy Ltd. and has worked in the engineering surveying profession for number of significant projects in the past 20 years, including HK International Airport, West Rail, Hong Kong - Shenzhen Western Corridor, Venetian Orient Cotai Parcel 5&6 (Macao) and Express Rail Link (XRL). LY has been the Chairman of HKIES since 2008 and also holds RPS(LS), MHKIS, MRICS, FHKInstES, MHKCAC, Construction Expert Witness and Construction Adjudicator qualifications. He is a frequent speaker on Geomatics issues for different professional organizations.
