The Knowledge Board is a sub-Board of RICS' Management Board and has delegated accountability for RICS' practice standards, technical competencies, Chartered Alternative Designations and practice related information strategy and activity. 

Its main purpose is to ensure that RICS' Professional Groups & Forums approach supports the effective delivery of RICS' corporate strategy and objectives as outlined in the business plan, and continues to raise the profile, influence and credibility of RICS' global standards.

With the support of its specialist Professional Groups Boards & staff Directors, the Knowledge Board ensures that RICS' practice standards continue to evolve and are promoted consistently across the globe with local relevance.

The Board aims to ensure that key stakeholders & specialists are involved in the development of practice standards globally, and welcomes comments and suggestions from members.

It is important that all members feel connected with their Professional Group, this is a key priority for the Knowledge Board, and as such we would like to stress how much we value your involvement and feedback through involvement in the dedicated virtual communities.

The Board has direct responsibility for a number of areas (detailed below).  The Professional Groups & Forums Department works with other RICS member and staff teams, including Membership, Communications and Knowledge, to ensure a consistent approach across the globe.

The Knowledge Board's responsibilities

  • To set the strategy and framework for RICS Professional Groups     supporting delivery of the corporate strategy and objectives
  • To set the strategy and framework for a high quality practice standards programme which positions RICS as a recognised source of trusted, independent practice standards setting centre of excellence across the globe
  • To identify and agree the strategic practice areas globally, and ensure they are being effectively developed & supported
  • To identify and develop the framework within which the delivery of RICS' standards strategies can be delegated to the most appropriate level
  • To work with World Regions to ensure the optimum allocation of resources in support of RICS' Professional Groups development & outputs

Board meetings
The Board meets three times a year; but communicates and debates more frequently by email and telephone.
