RICS Scotland Building Surveying Professional Group Board
RICS Scotland Building Surveying Professional Group exists to promote, influence and advise on issues affecting chartered building surveyors in Scotland.
RICS Scotland Building Surveying Professional Group Board have been busy working on particular areas of current interest fro the profession and the current market needs on behalf of the membership. Below is a summary of some of these issues.
Building Conservation Technical Document Slating: The Board is looking at the production of a video with input from core slaters explaining the history of slating, the varied terminology and timescales involved. This will then be issued to universities with guidance for the technical aspects of roof slating. To be discussed further at their September PG Board meeting.
Careers and Education: APC Guidance Note: The Board will review and edit the guidance note. The guidance note will relate to the core competences so as to give candidates a good steer towards information that they should be reading ahead of their APC and be referenced to Scotland.
University visits and guest lectures will be carried out in October 2011.
Cavity wall insulation: Members of the Board have highlighted a growing concern in relation to the inappropriate application of cavity wall insulation for domestic dwellings. Within Scotland a large portion of our existing domestic housing stock is unsuitable for cavity wall insulation and the installation of cavity fill could have a detrimental effect on the core building fabric of such properties.
Meetings have since been held with the Scottish Government in an advisory capacity in relation to these issues. Guidance will be produced for the UK membership. Further meetings with other stakeholders will also be held and this information will be communicated as widely as possible throughout the UK.
