Access to Premises in NSW

The Sydney leg of the National Roadshow of the New Disability Access to Premises Standard seminars was held on 28 July 2010.
The Australian Federal Government Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010 are due to come into force in May 2011. This is a very significant issue for all those working in property and construction.
The new standards codify responsibilities originally identified in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, which have not been rigorously enforced until now.
The new standards will apply to all new buildings and refurbishments which require building certification. Martin Burgess MRICS was the speaker and was assisted by a panel of Judith Knott MRICS, Graham Pinney MRICS and Rob Buchanan MICE.
These seminars provide members and non-members with essential CPD opportunities and this event was extremely well-attended with over 80 people.
During the course of the evening Chris Lock, CEO of the Transport Construction Authority, was presented with his Fellowship to RICS. Chris has been MRICS for over 30 years and has made an extensive contribution to RICS and the industry.
