Having completed a year trialling the new role of Secretary I’m sad to announce that Bill Gater FRICS has reluctantly decided to step down a year early from that role and will be spending more time on his business interests.
In making this announcement I want to offer my warmest thanks to Bill for all his contributions to our profession over many years.
Bill has made many excellent contributions to our profession. In addition to his thoughtful and thorough work on RICS’ governance over the last year, Bill has also played a lead role in engagement in the profession, an area very dear to his heart.
His role as Secretary to the Profession followed six years for Bill as Honorary Treasurer and many previous roles on Governing Council, working groups and Boards as well as strong support over many years for our dispute resolution function. In this latter regard, I am delighted to say that he will continue his work in dispute resolution training for RICS.
Bill has been a true servant of the profession and I know that all those who have met and worked with Bill will want to join me in offering him the warmest thanks for his contribution, friendship and for all the enjoyable times we have spent together.
I will be discussing next steps with Governing Council and a further communication will follow in due course.
