We welcome the findings of the independent review of the building regulations and fire safety led by Dame Judith Hackitt. The report rightly outlines the need for change, and underlines the need for Government and industry to work together.
We have worked with other professional bodies to submit evidence and stand ready again to commit to the next phase of the review, and to pushing through the progress thereafter.
With regard to the regulatory system for safely designing, constructing, and managing buildings not being fit for purpose; while we regulate members of the surveying profession and take action as necessary, the law and related statutory requirements governing building regulations and building safety clearly go considerably wider than the surveying profession.
We will devote as much resource and expertise as needed to play our part in the collective effort to learn from, and act upon the lessons for the sector, and are committed to playing our part in the second phase of the report and beyond.
