Harris Debate - Which Public & Whose Advantage? (Online)

Established to recognise Jonathan Harris CBE FRICS and his unique contribution to CPD, further education and lifelong learning.

Speaker

The writer, lecturer and broadcaster Dr Kenan Malik, will give a talk exploring the history of moral thought, and the origins and evolution of human values, and the meaning of “public advantage” from the 19th Century to the present day, and what it may mean in future.

Panel discussion

Chaired by Lord Bichard KCB (Chair, Social Care Institute for Excellence) and an opportunity for the audience to participate, questioning panellists and speaker and contributing to the debate on:

  • To whom are professionals accountable? – clients, citizens and / or society?
  • How can “morality” guide professionals through the complexity of compliance?
  • As a practitioner, where does the balance lie between compliance through culture and compliance through enforcement?

History

The Continuing Professional Development Foundation was formed in 1981 to provide the opportunity for professionals to attend high-quality and affordable seminars. In 2011, and after 30 years, the Foundation’s founder, Jonathan Harris CBE FRICS, passed to RICS the Foundation’s business and RICS are continuing to expand the activities and build on Jonathan’s hard work and enterprise.
