As the new academic year starts, the theme of this issue is education, and we focus on careers and training in particular.
Alex Charlesworth describes the many different career paths in building surveying, with help from fellow members of the professional group board, while Bradley Webster outlines the key routes of entry into the profession. Vivien King traces the history of apprenticeships and shares a case study from Malcolm Hollis, and with the University of West London offering enhanced work shadowing for its building surveying students, Joseph Rizzuto and Indira Chauhan explain how problem-based learning can provide them with valuable experience.
In other pieces, Jill Hamilton reviews the latest changes to the JCT suite of contracts and Alexander Aronsohn introduces the second edition of the RICS property measurement professional statement.
Elsewhere, Anthony Walker looks at how property technology can help building surveyors add value, while increasing instances of flooding also create opportunities for surveyors to promote resilience, according to Ian Gibbs.
