Our independent Regulatory Board recently approved a change to the rules regarding entry to the Valuer Registration scheme.

As of 1 January 2018, professionals who qualified before January 2012 lose the ability to join Valuer Registration without demonstrating the relevant valuation competence. This change will not affect the accreditation of professionals who are already Registered Valuers.

Under the revised rules, all professionals wishing to become a Registered Valuer have to demonstrate either:

  • valuation competency to Level 3 for Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) assessment;
  • business valuation competency to Level 3 for Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) assessment; or,
  • valuation competence at AssocRICS level (if qualified as an Associate RICS member).

This change is being introduced to ensure that those coming into the scheme meet the required valuation competence, regardless of when they qualified. This in turn builds stakeholder confidence in the scheme’s robustness.

As Valuer Registration is introduced in markets around the world, Registered Valuers can derive further value from the fact that their globally recognised accreditation represents expertise and professionalism.
