On behalf of the BC Chapter board, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our chapter members as we look forward to the summer.

We started the year with a great charity event in February. The fundraising event this year was a pub quiz that supported the Paul Sugar Foundation.  The Paul Sugar Palliative Support Foundation was established to provide assistance to those individuals living with a terminal illness and in financial need.  The event raised over $1,700. For more information visit Paul Sugar Foundation webpage.

In April, the RICS Summit of the Americas was held in Los Angeles. It was an interesting two days of panel discussions and meetings with attendees and speakers from five continents.

The Summit also saw the launch of the RICS Futures program. This program explores the implications of key drivers for change to 2030, from mass urbanization and the emergence of real estate as an investment class, to the rise of the worldwide middle class and the revolutionary promise of big data.

In May, the BC Chapter held a round table discussion in Vancouver on the RICS Futures report, moderated by Daniel Cook, the Director of Strategy and Planning for the RICS. It was a lively discussion with many of the key drivers of the report affecting us locally in Vancouver.

The RICS supported the "Capital in Commercial Real Estate Benchmarking Risk & Return" event held in May in conjunction with JLL and MSCI Real Estate-IPD, that looked at the different forms of capital partnering in real estate are emerging in a competitive market with limited investment opportunities.

Lucy Fletcher is stepping down from the BC Board, as she relocated from Vancouver to Chicago. I want to personally thank Lucy for all her hard work and the energy she brought to the board. If you are interested in joining the board, please send a short statement of your interest to: gdavid@pcl.com.
