Dear Members and colleagues,
As we approach the end of our administrative year I am pleased to be able to share with you some highlights of our Florida Chapter since the start of 2015.
In February, I was pleased to host the year’s first meeting of the US Country Board, which brought together Chapter Leaders from California, New York, and Chicago; along with the RICS Americas Member Services team; to Miami to discuss strategic initiatives to meet our country-wide growth and development targets. A meet-and-greet was also held at the Epic Hotel where Florida Chapter members were able to meet our guests, including our new dedicated Member Services Manager, Carmel Haynes. Members with any RICS-related queries can reach Carmel.
In March, we had the distinct honor of welcoming RICS President Dr. Louise Brooke-Smith, who hosted a dinner for Florida members in Coral Gables, where she gave insight into global RICS initiatives and her personal goals for the organization. Our founding chapter leader, MacDonald West, also provided her with a guided tour of the Art Deco district in Miami, which she enjoyed immensely.
In April, Chapter Committee member David Baxter organized for interested Florida members a unique guided tour of the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science construction site. The tour of the hard-hat site was guided by President & CEO of the museum, Gillian Thomas.
The Florida Chapter continues to value its industry partners and we are working with the British Consulate General in Miami to generate thought-leading roundtable discussions on issues pertinent to our profession. We are also pleased to be participating in Brit Week 2015 in Orlando from November 8 to 14 where we are coordinating an expert panel. More details will follow in subsequent communication.
We also continue to work with the Florida International University and Nova Southeastern to assist them through the RICS accreditation process.
Thank you for your engagement so far and we look forward to involving you in more of our activities through the second half of 2015.
Tim Gifford FRICS
Florida Chapter Committee Chair
