2015 has been a year of continuing growth and change for the SoCal Chapter.

As usual, our members came to the plate with some very interesting events in addition to our popular monthly CPD offerings.

Member Danny Kaye is project managing a massive, and very tricky, upgrade of the historic Gilmore Adobe. He took us back to early Los Angeles at this oasis in the middle of one of the busiest neighborhoods in the region. EY hosted another well-received Development Series panel discussion on the new developments at LAX featuring the PCL Constructions, Turner Construction, Gensler and member firm Faithful + Gould.  It’s another very tricky project to undertake in the middle of one of the nation’s busiest airports.

We are excited about the creation of our new Student Chapter spearheaded by USC star student Francois Reihani. You may remember Francois and his stellar classmates volunteering at the Summit of the Americas in LA this spring. Francois also co-presented a seminar on how to use social media, with board member Philip Disbrey. Time will tell if the Luddites among us have benefitted.

Our chapter holiday party will be a joint event with CREW-LA, our first women-focused effort that we hope bodes well for future engagement. Speaking of the Summit, I was honored to Chair it with RICS’ fantastic staff (especially our own beloved Member Manager Ethel Rubio) and our many local members who helped provide content, tours and sponsorships. We raised the bar and I look forward to seeing you all in Washington DC next year. Before then, please join us on February 25 for our very first Construction & Project Management Seminar: How Can You Raise Your EQ?

As a final reminder, please make sure to log all of your 2015 CPD to your online record, available at rics.org/cpdrecord, before December 31.

In the meantime, Season's Greetings and all the best for 2016!
